Each year, during the last weeks in April and the first week of May, students in grades two through five at Bryant Ranch participate in the STAR assessments. These are state mandated tests and These are state mandated tests and there are two separate components to this battery of assessments. The first part consists of the California Standards Test/CST. The CST is the most important because it is specifically geared toward measuring how well your child has performed with California's content standards. The CAT-6 is a standardized norm-referenced assessment. This type of test is purposely designed to rank students and measures their achievement against other students across the United States. Both of these tests are important. We want to know how our students have done in relationship to California's high standards, but we also want to be able to benchmark our students against the rest of the nation's school children. The results from the California Standards Test/CST and the CAT-6 are not used to grade students. We use this data to monitor student learning and the school's overall strengths and weaknesses. These scores serve as a yardstick to help us to continue to evaluate our curriculum and school programs. Please remember that when we analyze any data, we never look solely at one source of information. Research tells us that several measures of performance data are the only way we can truly analyze outcomes. Click here to view the test score summary page.
